HEAVEN + EARTH SERIES:
In this series I explore pieces that combine the galaxies and on the other extreme, earth. In this piece the exterior of the piece is glazed in a combination galaxy and agate style and is “cracked" open” to expose the inner rose quartz geode inside.
This mug is a functional sculpture, inspired by magnificent geodes found in nature. I threw this mug on the wheel, indented the surface and over many hours, applied the hand carved geodes one by one. I then hand painted it, fired it in the kiln and accented it in 22k gold.
